Finding the right medication

It may take some time to find the ‘right’ medication option for you. You will probably check in with your clinician about how treatment is working and revisit your decision a number of times.

If you decide to take medication, it is important that you take it consistently (e.g., at the same time each day) so that it can be effective and prevent relapse as much as possible.

Staying on medication long-term (adherence) can be challenging, but it can help to develop good routines for taking the medication, develop a good relationship with your clinician and consider some psychological treatments (see "Why are psychological treatments recommended in bipolar II disorder?").
