Welcome to “Making treatment decisions that are right for you. A decision-aid for patients with bipolar II disorder and their family”

Helping you make sense of your options

Disentangling treatment decision-making

This decision-aid website is designed to help you and (if you choose) your family, to make informed decisions about your treatment for preventing relapse in bipolar II disorder (BPII). Informed decisions are decisions based on the best available clinical evidence (included on this website) along with considering your personal preferences. Click here to find out about the team.

The website contains three main sections: 1. “Medication Options”, 2. “Psychological Options” and 3.“Making Decisions” which involves interactive exercises to guide you through thinking about what is important to you in choosing your treatment option/s.

There is no need to go through the whole website in one go and in any particular order. You can choose to read each of the sections ‘in order’ of presentation using Left arrow and Icon right arrow at the bottom of each page, or you can jump ahead to the sections that contain the most important information for you.

Key information sections in the list on the left are marked with . This information is important to understanding the different treatment options and will help you to make an informed decision about your treatment. You can also save any interesting or important pages to the Saved pages section of My dashboard by clicking on Icon bookmark on the right.

When you have read these key information sections, go to the interactive exercises so that you can make a decision that is based on your preferences. Afterwards, you can save your preferences to the My Preferences section of My dashboard.

There is a separate section dedicated to young adults, as this is the age when people are most likely to start experiencing symptoms of BPII for the first time and find themselves in the early stages of diagnosis.

Finally, some important points to keep in mind when using this decision-aid website:

  • The treatments presented in this website are NOT your ONLY options available. Instead, the presented treatment options are the ones that are currently supported by the MOST research evidence for preventing relapse in BPII. Your clinician may recommend other medications or psychological treatment options to you based on your individual needs or circumstances.
  • This website is NOT designed to replace discussions about treatment with your clinician rather it is designed to support these discussions.
  • Making decisions about treatment to prevent relapse in BPII is often a process that involves a number of decisions as well as trialling different options to find the right treatment for you. This website is the first-step in the decision-making process.

Once you have read the key information sections  and completed the interactive exercises, go to the My questionnaires section on My dashboard and complete the questions so we can find out whether this decision-aid website was helpful for you to make informed treatment decisions.
